Are you building relationships with your clients or are you just selling products and services? The more I work in the business world as a business owner, the more I realize the importance of building legitimate relationships with your clients. If you have been trained to make the “quick sale” or to say anything just to get someone to buy from you, then I believe you will ultimately fail as a salesperson. Below, I have outlined 3 reasons why you should build relationships with your clients.

 

First, building relationships with your clients helps you to understand more about them on a personal level. The more you can know about your client's likes, dislikes, business needs, goals, etc., the more you will be able to help them reach their goals. Taking the time to get to know your client will naturally make you more valuable to them as opposed to someone who didn’t take the time to get to know them.

 

Second, building relationships with your clients will help you retain customer loyalty. In an age where anybody can buy practically anything online, it is vital that you build client loyalty. The more they know you on a personal level, the more they will want to help and support you.

 

Third, building relationships with your clients will result in getting referrals. If you have provided a great service and/or product and have built a relationship, then inevitably your client will refer you to their friends and contacts. We recently received a large order from a referral.  Had we not taken the time to get to know our client, then this referral might have never happened.
